DDS Five Year Plan

DDS Five Year Plan 2012 -2017

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is in the process of developing a Five Year Plan for submission to the Public Health and Appropriations Committees in January 2012, pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes Section 17a-211. The plan shall: (1) Set priorities; (2) identify goals and objectives and the strategies to be employed to achieve them; (3) define the criteria to be used in evaluating whether the department is making progress toward the achievement of such goals and objectives; (4) identify changes in priorities, goals, objectives and strategies from the prior plan; (5) describe and document progress made in achieving the goals and objectives outlined in the prior plan; and (6) estimate the type and quantity of staff and client services that will be needed over the life of the plan.

DDS’s Five Year Plan is a strategic statement of DDS’s direction and an outline of priorities which will be used to guide the direction of the current and future service system.

Commissioner Macy has been soliciting input for the Five Year Plan from numerous DDS stakeholders throughout Connecticut by embarking on a Listening Tour. The Commissioner’s goal through this process has been to hear different perspectives on 1) current systems, 2) how DDS can make the system more responsive to families and 3) how do we develop sustainable programs going forward. He has met with many self advocates, families, private providers public sector staff, and multiple advocacy groups. Comments and perspectives are welcome from anyone, at any time, up until early December 2011 at the contact information below.
