Time Away From Work
The Kennedy Center, Inc. provides all regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 15 hours per week time away from work to celebrate certain holidays. Paid holidays include the following;
• New Year's Day
• Martin Luther King Jr. Day
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Friday after Thanksgiving
• Christmas Day
• The day before or after Christmas
The Kennedy Center provides vacation leave to regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 15 hours per week. Vacation time accrues from the first day of employment. The annual accrual for regular full-time employees for employment in their first year is 10 days. The rate of accrual increases with length of service.
Paid Sick Leave
The Kennedy Center provides regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 25 hours per week paid sick leave for temporary absences from work due to illness or injury. Paid sick leave time accrues from the first day of employment. The annual accrual for regular full-time employees is 12 days.
The Kennedy Center semi-annually reviews utilized sick time by staff. Regular full-time employees who have used no more than two sick days during a full calendar six month period will earn two merit days. Part-time employees who work at least 25 hours per week who do not use more than 10 hours of sick time will earn 10 hours of merit time.
The Kennedy Center provides regular full-time employees who work at least 37.5 hours per week two personal days per year. Personal days are granted to eligible employees on January 1 of each year.
Leave of Absence
Family and Medical Leave
In accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993, The Kennedy Center, Inc. grants leave to eligible employees for up to 12 work weeks in a 12-month period. FMLA leave is a guaranteed period of time in which an employee may be absent from work with job protection due to the following: an employee’s own serious health condition or to care for a child, spouse or parent with a serious health condition, care for a newborn child or newly adopted or newly placed foster care child. As well, an eligible employee is entitled to leave up to 26 weeks in a 12 month period, due to a spouse, parent or child being called to active military duty or for the serious injury or illness of a spouse, parent, child or next of kin injured in the line of duty. The time away from work under FMLA is unpaid after the employee has exhausted vacation, personal, holiday, merit and/or sick time.
Military Service Leave
The Kennedy Center provides Military Service Leave to employees who are members of the Armed Forces in accordance with the provisions of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994.
The Kennedy Center provides regular full-time and part-time employees who work at least 15 hours per week up to three paid working days in the event of death in the employee’s immediate family.
