Overview of Children Services
Children Services works with families to provide community-based, fexible and individualized services that meet both the family and child's preferences.
Children with disabilities or special needs receive educational, recreational, and social options that are offered year-round from birth to age twenty-one.

 Birth to Three (ages 0-3)
Our team of professionals provides individual family-centered support for children who are demonstrating developmental delays in the areas of cognitive, motor, speech, social/emotional or adaptive skills. Therapy is provided at home or in community settings such as day care, playgroup or gymboree. We also offer popular inclusive playgroups in the community, bringing families together for fun and socializing.
Opportunities Unlimited (ages 3- 21)
Opportunities Unlimited helps children with special needs participate inclusively in a variety of existing community activities. We also sponsor teen & young adult drop-in centers. A partner in the Bridgeport Lighthouse program, and support children with special needs at numerous other Bridgeport schools. This program also provides 1:1 extended day programs through different school districts.
 The Autism Project (ages 3- 21)
The Autism Project is designed to increase and develop services to children, youth, adolescents, and young adults. Five major service areas have been identified and include: service coordination; support in community activities; financial assistance; information, referral, and support; and development of new services for unaddressed needs.
Parent Aide*
Our Parent Aide program provides home-based support, advocacy and education to families under stress or whose children are at a risk of child abuse and/or neglect. By developing a non-judgmental and nurturing relationship and assisting in mobilizing personal resources, our team provides the support to help a parent succeed often under very difficult circumstances.
* The Parent Aide program is fully funded through The Department of Children and Families.
